Sustainable design in public spaces is essential for both the earth and human beings. The world is currently at a critical stage of negative environmental impacts such as climate change, depletion of resources and unhealthy human consumption, that are partially a result of large public spaces. Sustainable practices assist in reducing these negative impacts. Sustainable practices allow humans to live in healthier and safer environments, they mitigate climate change and help conserve resources. Sustainable design is part of needed solutions to continuous environmental, social, and economic needs.

"Having worked in property developments for the past 20 years; I felt it was time to work with young people from different backgrounds to design the world’s first Youth Economy Campus (YEC). Graduates and students working on the YEC design project come from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, providing a unique opportunity to learn from others and broaden one's own perspectives. I believe they are the next generation of leaders in their fields, and meeting them has brought forward valuable insights into the future of their discipline. My role is to provide opportunities for mentorship and guidance, which is rewarding for both parties."
